DIRECTIONS:
From Westminster, head west on Rt. 140. Turn left on to Rt 832. After reaching
Tyrone and passing Tyrone Rd., the cemetery is on the right. The older part
of the cemetery lies east of the pond.
CEMETERY BACKGROUND
The cemetery is part of the Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ (formerly
the old German Reformed faith) and Baust Lutheran Church, founded in 1765. The
church and cemetery were shared by the two congregations from the ealiest times.
The oldest part of the cemetery was refurbished in 1934 by the Daughters of
the American Revolution, who set the stones in concrete and planted shrubs.
The locations of the tombstones may not be over the original grave, as the area
had long been used as a plowed field and has many springs. Transcriptions of
tombstones primarily came from the Carroll County Historical Society listing
of this cemetery compiled in 1982 by Susan Ruddick Bloom and from a 1917 compilation.
