Programs

The Westminster Chapter has a variety of programs:

American History Teacher Contest. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

This committee judges the local competitions for the American History Teacher Contests. The National Council of Youth Program supports the Dr. Tom & Betty Lawrence American History Teacher Award. At the national level, the contests are for Middle and High School Teachers; at the state leve only is an additonal contest for Elementary School Teachers. All contests use the same criteria, and are open locally to American History teachers in public, private, and parocial schools in Carroll County. Please see our list of current and past winners. There are a variety of awards that our chapter can make. These include: Good Citizenship Award (for community service); Fire Service; Law Enforcement; Emergency Medical Services; and Heroism. More information may be found at the National SAR site.

Eagle Scout Award. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

Open to all Eagle Scouts. Our chapter award goes to a Boy Scout who is from a Troop within the Carroll District of the Batimore Area Council, BSA or who lives in Carroll County, MD. Please see our list of current and past winners. More information may be found at the National SAR site.


Flag Award. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

Our chapter bestows this award to for citizens who regularly and properly display the Flag of the United States. More information on the national program may be found at the National SAR site.


Graves. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

Our chapter's near-term objective is to register and mark the final resting places of those Patriots buried in Carroll County who may not have previously been honored with a marker by the SAR or DAR. More information on the national program may be found at the National SAR site.


JROTC and ROTC Awards. CONTACTS: Charles Hedges

Our chapter awards JROTC and ROTC cadets who for their high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence are selected by the Commanding Officer of their JROTC or ROTC unit located in Carroll County. At present two JROTC units are located at Carroll County schools: Century HS (Eldersburg) and Winter's Mill HS (Westminster). At present one ROTC unit is located within Carroll County: McDaniel College. Please see our list of current and past winners. Knight Essay Contest. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

The contest is designed to give high school students an opportunity to explore events that shaped American History. Our chapter award is open to high school aged students who reside in Carroll County and attend public or private schools or are home schooled. Chapter winners go on State level compettion and winners there go on to National Level competiton. Please see our list of current and past winners. Operation REACH. CONTACT: VACANT

A National Society Sons of the American Revolution project for connecting interested potential SAR candidates with local SAR chapters.


Patriotic Organization Outreach. CONTACT: VACANT

A chapter project to increase involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution, posts of the American Leagion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and other patriotic organizations.



Poster Contest. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

This committee promotes the study of American History by youth. The National Americanism Committee supports a Poster competiton for Elementary School Students grades, depending on which grade year the American Revolution is taught in their educational system, with a new topic chosen each year. The chapter supports a competition at the chapter level for all students residing in Carroll County who are home schooled, or attend public, parochial or private schools. The winner goes on to compete at the state level and winners there compete at the national level. Please see our list of current and past winners. Rumbaugh Oration Contest. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

The compettion is designed to explore the influence of the Revolutionary war on present day America. Our chapter award is open to all students living in Carroll County, attending home schools, public, parochial, or private high schools and who are in their sophomore, junior or senior year of study during the contest year. Supporting CAR. CONTACT: VACANT

The Westminster Chapter, SAR proudly supports the Terra Rubra Chapter, Children of the American Revolution. At present, we support an informational page on the chapter and in May 2007 helped provide them with a chapter flag. More information on the Society may be found at the National CAR site.

Youth Video Contest. CONTACT: James F. Engler, Sr.

The compettion is designed to explore the influence of the Revolutionary war in a video fomat. Our chapter award is open to all students living in Carroll County, attending home schools, public, parochial, or private schools and who are in the sixth to twelfth grades during the contest year.
