REVOLUTIONARY WAR SERVICE
Military. Private, served in 1777 for six months in "A" Regiment, Pennsylvania
Militia, Col. Oshterman commanding and was at the Battle of Germantown; also
served under Captains Gray, Reid and Adam Schaffer; honorably discharged 1778.
Served two terms of two months each as a scout for the Pennsylvania militia,
1781 and 1782.
BIOGRAPHY
John George Peiffer, the son of Johannes Pfeiffer and Maria Barbara [--?--],
was born 15 SEP 1756 in Heidelberg Township, Berks Co, Pennsylvania and died
19 JAN 1823 in Woodcock Township, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania. He married Mary
Magdalena Schaffer 3 APR 1781 in Himmel Church, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.
Mary, the daughter of Johannes Schaffer and Maria Sab, was born 2 JUN 1762
in Heidelberg Township, Berks Co., Pensylvania, and died 10 OCT 1844 in Woodcock
Township, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania. After their marriage, John George (usually
known simply as George) lived in Mahanoy Township, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.
George brought his family to Bloomfield Township, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania
on 15 MAY 1802 and in 1810 moved his family to an area south of Saegertown,
Pennsylvania, to Mead (now Woodcock) Township, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania,
near one of their sons and in an area that became known as "Pieffertown".
John George Peiffer and Mary Magdalena Schaffer had the following children:
