BIOGRAPHY
Gershom Page, the son of Seth Pope and Jerusha Tobey, was born 22 Aug 1743 in
Sandwich, Barnstable Co, Massachusetts, and died 22 Mar 1810 in Burlington,
New York. He married Hannah Smith about 1 Mar 1762. Hannah was born 26 MAR 1742
and died 9 FEB 1830. On 1 MAR 1762 he was given by his father half of the family's
homestead near the eastern edge of Plainfield, Connecticut. In 1779 he sold
this farm and moved his family to Bennington, Vermont. Before 1790 he as well as seven of his sons and two of his sons-in-law moved
to the Burlington area (they all appear there in the 1790 Federal census). In
1792 he purchased from Judge Cooper 240 acres at the far northern part of the
township of Burlington,New York, paying 12 shillings an acre in the deal. At the first town meeting of Burlington (2 APR 1793) he was elected Commissioner of Highways.
Of his record in the war years, he is clearly listed in the undated pay roll of the company, where it is recorded they marched 1 SEP 1776 and were discharged 2 NOV 1776, with service of 60 days.
